I’ve always been fascinated by music that features the slow transformation of timbres. These kinds of pieces allow the listener to hear the inner mechanisms of sound and to immerse oneself into a sonic universe we might never hear otherwise. The inspiration for this piece came from my two favorite chords, G-flat and E Major. I don’t have a reason for why these are my favorite other than I love the color of them. Liminal I explores the transformation between these two chords through gradual changes in pitch collections while sculpting the ensemble sound from distant and icy to crunchy and harsh, back to melodious and open.
